Let it "Bee" Keychain

Updated: Sep 13, 2022

I finally started down the road of alpha patterns. I started saving them to my pinterest a couple months ago, but I had no idea how to do one. Well, not completely zero idea. I have made chevron friendship bracelets, but those just require taking the outside string and knotting to the middle and starting over. One of my goals in learning to follow an alpha pattern is making a guitarlele strap for my husband. It will be sturdy, not stretchy, and I can make it look however he wants. To learn, I had to start with a pretty simple pattern.

There are lots of color changes to practice, but not so many it is overwhelming. Also, it's a cute pun. One of my sisters loves the Beatles, so I figured I could gift it to her when I finished, assuming it didn't look completely awful. Luckily, it didn't. There are some rough spots, but I think it turned out great for my first attempt. I can tell that I improved by the end of the keychain.

For anyone else wanting to learn, I highly recommend Masha Knots on youtube. She is found here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCg2yB7xVVRBDOxY3l_ur5MA

I found her videos to be extremely helpful. I really recommend the one about making flat alphas: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_YVFAX9sacw This one in particular was great. She talks clearly, uses consistent language to describe making bracelets, and repeats everything just enough to get it without feeling like a preschooler. It is the perfect balance for me. I started following her advice between 'let' and 'it,' and especially on the edges you can tell the difference. Bumpy and uneven to less bumpy and uneven.

I think I will do maybe two more bracelets/keychains before designing and attempting the guitarlele strap.
