Cassidy's Barrett Bralette

So..... I haven't bought a bra in too long. I'm embarrassed to say it's probably been a couple years. Naturally, the ones I had were really starting to show their age (not to mention they better suited a pre-having-a-baby version of myself). There were two I had that literally started falling apart. Wires were poking through, lace was getting even more hole-y, and trim desperately tried to stay on. I decided to make at least one and see how it went.

After a lot of research into free online patterns, I settled on trying the barrett bralette by Madalynne Intimates. It has great reviews because a lot of people have sewed it. Bonus, it is a bralette. Double bonus, I ended up not needing to buy any specialty stuff. Here is the pattern.

There are a couple things I did a tiny bit differently from the pattern. One, I just cut off the straps from my old bras to use. They were in good shape, and I didn't want to bother with ordering new ones online. Two, I didn't use soft lingerie elastic. I don't wear my bras directly against my skin, so I just used generic elastic. I think I even had to use 1/2 inch elastic because all the local craft stores were out of 1/4 inch. It worked for me.

For the outside fabric I used a polyester fabric I found at Joanns. I really liked the print, and it wasn't toooooo stretchy. It is stretchy, but it does provide some support. The lining is an olive colored jersey I bought 4 years ago initially thinking I was going to make a swing dress. Instead I have 3 yards of olive colored jersey.

I loved making this bralette. I was able to make it in one afternoon from start to finish. The pattern was easy to follow and provided more value than just giving a step-by-step of how to sew it.

Mine didn't end up the neatest, but I really needed a bra fast. I would definitely recommend.
