My husband's aunt asked me to make a zebra lovey for her daughter's soon to be born baby boy. Details about that project are coming soon, I promise. I just need to clean up the pattern I wrote for it.
I ended up with quite a bit of yarn left over from that project. Probably about four full skeins worth. I had almost a whole week before the baby shower, so I made up some teething rings to match the lovey. Again, details about those will come because I wrote some patterns for those. I still had a bunch of yarn left over, so the night before the baby shower I cast on for this baby hat.
I found the pattern on Ravelry:
It was perfect. It was designed with DK cotton yarn, and that's what I had. Specifically, this is what I had in colors 2, 34, 18, and 66: https://hobbii.com/rainbow-cotton-8-8?option=9660
First of all, let me say how much I love this yarn. SOOOOOO MUCH!! It is soft, vibrant, and I didn't think it split very much at all. I will definitely be reordering. This pattern was really fun to make too. It is simple and quick. I did have a reoccurring issue of reading the pattern incorrectly and having to redo stuff more than I would have liked, but that is a user error. Or a tired knitter error. A tired knitter trying to knit too fast error. Something like that. I would definitely make this hat again because it is so stinking cute.
Here is the pattern I followed to add the stripes:
8 rounds natural (garter band)
6 rounds lime
4 rounds turquoise
2 rounds orange
8 rounds natural
6 rounds turquoise
4 rounds orange
2 rounds lime
8 rounds natural
6 rounds orange
4 rounds lime
2 rounds turquoise
repeat as long as the pattern goes for.
I used way less than one skein per color, so it was a great way to use up some of the left over yarn I had. The only problem, I still have leftover yarn. Is that really a problem though?
